In this talk, a quick review will be provided with respect to some commercially available and in-house developed software for computational science and engineering. Both direct and indirect solvers will be revisited. Symmetric and non symmetric column solvers along with multigrid solution methods will also be presented. Two important philosophies with respect to modeling and scientific computing will be delineated, namely complex system modeling with noise and repeatable engineering design based on simple often linear principles.
Dr. Sheldon Wang is one of the inventors and pioneers of the immersed finite element method, which is now a major computational paradigm and method for solving fluid-structure interaction problems. He got his BS from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and MS and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, He has been teaching in the States for over twenty four years.
